Frequently Asked Questions

What do y’all believe?

A lot! We believe that the image of God is in everyone. We believe that Christ’s table is open to everyone. We believe that scripture and tradition are great gifts for us to learn about God, the world, and ourselves, but we also believe it’s alright to disagree with them at times. We believe that reason and experience are also great gifts and teachers. We believe that each and every person (and creature) are worthy and deserving of a life filled with beauty, joy, and peace. We believe in the sacred gifts of love and community. Most of us share a belief in God, and we have a lot of different ideas of who or what God is or does. We believe that coming together - for worship, study, service, fellowship, and more is good for us.

Do I have to believe everything/anything to show up?

Nope. We are a church that welcomes the doubts, disbelief, and questions in addition to the beliefs and convictions. Experience, scripture, tradition, reason and more are all present within the conversation of faith. They lead us to believe. They lead us to doubt. They lead us to become who it is that God is calling us to be. Your doubt(s) and disbelief is welcome and honored. You shouldn’t have to accept inadequate answers or cliches to belong to a church. This congregation can flourish in agreement and disagreement, and difference is good.

Your website says that “Everyone is welcome and belongs.” Is that true?

Yes.

Follow-up: Really?

Yes. Everyone. Every one. Everybody. Every body.

Ok, but is this like, “You’re welcome here, but if you want to take communion you have to _____” or “You’re welcome here, but if you want to join you have to change”?

No. You’re welcome - as you are. You belong - as you are.

We are aware of the “bait and switch” that some churches will offer, and we are aware of the harm and pain such an inauthentic welcome can cause. We have committed to being an Open and Affirming congregation and this is a commitment to genuinely welcome everyone as they are. You are radically loved by God as you are right in this very moment. It is the commitment and the humble prayer of this congregation that the welcome you receive will reflect this great love.
